Independent agents selling Medicare Advantage plans must re-certify with each insurance company they wish to represent this fall. Agents can take the Medicare test offered by AHIP and have that test applied to testing requirements for each insurance company. Each company will require tests specific to their plans as well.
The AHIP test will cost $150 this year. So far no company has come forward to say they would pay the fee for agents (as Humana did in 2008).
Agents who take a company’s Medicare test and do not pass, cannot take the AHIP test. If an agent begins testing with a company, the AHIP test, if taken, will not register.

What site, how do I pay, do I go on to take medicare AHIP test, I must be missing a step somewhere please give me step by step instruction, thank you!
I’ll try to remember the steps I took when I took the AHIP test last month. Most agents who take this test will probably go through an insurance company’s portal. For example, I logged into the Unitedhealth agent site and went to their training page. (I am contracted with them and they had provided instructions.) Following their instructions, I was taken to the AHIP site where I had to register with AHIP to get a national number. When I finished the AHIP testing my results were sent to Unitedhealth because I had signed in through them.
Then I had to go to the Humana site, log in and get directed to the AHIP registration site. I had to register again so the system had me connected to Humana. Because I had already taken the AHIP test, I was able to click on a box that said, “send my results to Humana”.
Then I did the same for Health Net, and Unicare as these are companies I need to certify with. So it may be that you can’t go directly to the AHIP test unless you go through a company site. I believe there is a number on the AHIP site to ask for help.
Also, if you go through certain company sites your AHIP cost will be just $100 instead of $150. I think Humana might even reimburse you (if and when you actually sell Humana).
I hope this helps.
Your site is really cool to me and your topics are very relevant. I was browsing around and came across something you might find interesting. I was guilty of 3 of them with my sites. “99% of website owners are guilty of these 5 errors”. http://bit.ly/syWJZ9 You will be suprised how easy they are to fix.
